Choosing the correct lift is very important

Sunstream has engineered boat lifts ranging from 1,000 to 24,000 pounds. When determining the appropriate lift for your boat and lifestyle, consider not only your current lifting needs, but the boat you may buy in 5 to 10 years. Sunstream's lifts are constructed using quality materials and manufacturing. Each lift is paired with a frame, two cylinders, and a power unit specific to that lift and its weight capacity. It is not possible to "upgrade" or adapt your lift to accommodate a different capacity. Purchasing a higher capacity lift gives you the freedom to purchase a heavier boat in the future, but also adds significant resale value to your house or slip when you decide to sell.

Although weight is the deciding factor for any of Sunstream's lifts, the following factors are also important to consider when making your decision.

  • Model Numbers Indicate Bunk Length — The last two numbers in Sunstream's model numbers indicate bunk length. For most Sunstream models, the maximum boat length you would place on a lift is the two times the bunk length, plus one foot.

EXAMPLE: An SL6012AR has 12' bunks. Determine what the max boat length is for an SL6012AR. Max boat length for SL6012AR = (bunk length x 2) + 1', which means the typical max boat length would be 25'.

*Because boats vary greatly between length and weight, this is only a simple rule of thumb and not a definitive guide (there are 22' boats that weigh more than 6000lbs and 27' boats that weigh less than 6000 lbs).
  • Don't Forget Fuel and Water — As a general guideline, when determining the boats we weight, multiply the sum of the boats maximum water and fuel capacity by 8 pounds. As boats get larger, this number increases very quickly.
  • What is the REAL Weight of Your Boat? — Boat manufacturer specifications often underestimate the actual weight of the boat. If you suspect the weight of your boat may be underestimated, take the time to have it weighed.
  • Don't Forget About Gear — Coolers full of food and beverages, fishing gear, emergency equipment, ski/wakeboard equipment, kicker motors, upgraded engine packages, etc. all add to the weight of your boat. Don't underestimate how quickly these items can add up and make sure to include them when calculating the weight of your boat..
